Step 20 of 20 ways to master BLE

Mastery means being able to predict, measure and explain the system's behavior in the event of an error. The final project should start from a real need and turn hardware, firmware, protocol, application, security, energy and production into a coherent contract.

Skills you need to prove

Analyze an Advertising Packet manually with tools; read the GATT of an unknown device; Design a dedicated service with a copy contract; Select Pairing and Permission from the threat model; And find the cause of communication error with Capture.

Proposed final project

Build a battery-eating sensor that displays environmental data, configures via BLE, notifies data, and has battery service. Mobile app to discover, connect, chart and adjust. Firmware has a secure update and recovery path.

Acceptance criteria

Define range and Packet Error Rate in multiple environments, connection time, command delay, throughput, average current and estimated battery life, disconnect and connect behavior, security test and OTA success with numbers. "Works well" is not an engineering measure.

From sample to product

Test the PCB and antenna in the final frame, have BOM and part replacement, build fixture planning and factory test, record the version log and production ID, and design the support path and rollback. The protocol document must be shared between firmware, app and test.

Four-week implementation program

The first week of architecture and GATT, the second week of Prototype and App tools, the third week of energy measurement and RF troubleshooting, the fourth week of security, OTA and acceptance testing. At the end of the Demo, provide Capture, Performance Report, Versioned Source and List of Risks.

The output of the final project must be reviewable

outputAt least what you report
contract givenUUID, Unit, Length, Version, Error and Permission.
communicationValid data rate, drop, delay and test conditions.
powerFlow diagram, feed condition and estimate separately from measurement.
RecoveryReset behavior, disconnection and OTA disconnection along with recorded result.
releaseVersion ID, build file, test report and open risks.

The four-week program above is a suggested format for learning and modeling; Commercial product readiness, RF testing or approval is not guaranteed in four weeks. Talk about "acceptance" when there is a predetermined criterion and evidence of the same version.
