TAKTO: an open-source exoskeleton that reads finger motion
A wearable project measures finger motion directly and shares its mechanical, electronics and firmware build files.

What is the idea?
TAKTO ONE combines magnetic angle sensing with a Teensy controller in a hand exoskeleton. Its repository includes build files, electronics and firmware; Hackaday featured it on 16 October.
Why direct sensing is interesting
Editorial perspective: measuring motion at a joint offers a different approach from camera-based tracking. The learning opportunity spans sensing, data processing and control, rather than the robotic appearance alone.
Understand the prototype boundary
The author states that force, latency and assistance have not been measured and that the thumb is unfinished. A demonstration therefore does not establish clinical effectiveness or safety.
Our suggested starting point is the sensing and data-display architecture. Any mechanism that applies force to a person needs its own safety assessment and testing.
