Linux 7.3 is out: what embedded-board developers should check
A new mainline kernel is available; each embedded board still needs its own driver and operating-system-image checks.

The confirmed release
The official Linux Kernel Archives lists version 7.3 as mainline, dated 18 October 2026. A 20 October CNX Software overview examines changes relevant to embedded architectures.
Why builders should care
Editorial perspective: the kernel connects applications to hardware. An embedded product needs support for its particular controllers, drivers and board description; a version number alone proves none of those.
Before moving a board
Mainline publication does not automatically supply an image for every board or confer long-term-support status. Start with the board vendor’s notes and the distribution you actually use.
Evaluate boot, networking, storage and the interfaces your project needs, while retaining a recovery path. These are editorial recommendations. LCENJ has not measured a speedup or qualified this release on a particular board.
