LILYGO T-Halow P4 is a building block for longer-range wireless links

LILYGO’s T-Halow P4 is designed for devices that need to send information farther over a wireless link. A builder could evaluate it for a garden-monitoring camera, with a compatible receiver and a test at the actual site. It is not a finished camera, and its working distance will vary with the environment.

What is on it?

A board holds connected electronic components. This one uses an ESP32-P4 to run the program and a separate radio module to send and receive information. Connections for a camera and display are also provided.

Why does the wireless type matter?

Wi-Fi HaLow is a member of the Wi-Fi family using lower radio frequencies than ordinary Wi-Fi. It needs compatible equipment at the other end; an ordinary home router will not necessarily support it. LILYGO publishes a two-ended communication example, and CNX Software reported on the board on 23 October.

What needs checking?

This is development hardware needing software, power and other parts to become a complete camera. Its M.2 shape does not establish compatibility with a computer’s storage slot. The locally permitted frequency band, receiver, antenna and obstacles need checking; longer range is not a guaranteed distance in every garden or building.
